Group benefits we set up for Upstate employers

  • Group health insurance. Fully insured small-group and mid-size plans, with PPO, HMO and high-deductible (HSA-eligible) options. We match the network to the doctors and hospital systems your employees use, such as Prisma Health and Bon Secours St. Francis.
  • Group dental insurance. Preventive, basic and major coverage, offered on its own or alongside medical. It’s one of the most-used benefits and one of the least expensive to offer.
  • Group vision insurance. Eye exams, glasses and contacts, usually for a few dollars per employee per month.
  • Group life & disability insurance. Employer-paid basic life, optional supplemental life, and short- and long-term disability to replace income when an employee can’t work.
  • Critical illness, accident & hospital indemnity. Plans that pay cash directly to the employee after a covered diagnosis, injury or hospital stay. They help with deductibles and bills that health insurance doesn’t cover.
  • Voluntary (employee-paid) benefits. Coverage your team can choose and pay for through payroll deduction, at group rates and often at no cost to the business.
  • Medicare guidance for employees turning 65. When someone on your plan turns 65 or retires, our Medicare team explains their options, so the coordination with your group plan is done right.

Group health insurance for small businesses

You don’t need a big company to offer real benefits. We set up group health plans for businesses with 5 or more employees.

ICHRA: a flexible alternative to a group plan

With an Individual Coverage HRA (ICHRA), your business reimburses employees for individual health insurance they choose themselves, instead of offering one group plan. We help you compare an ICHRA with a traditional group plan, then help your employees choose and enroll in individual coverage.

  • You set the budget. Choose a fixed monthly allowance. Allowances can differ by employee class, such as full-time and part-time staff.
  • Employees pick their own plan. Each person chooses individual coverage with the doctors and network that fit them.
  • Tax-advantaged. Reimbursements for qualifying premiums are generally tax-free for the business and the employee.
  • No participation minimums. ICHRAs work for businesses of any size, including teams too small for a group plan.

Employees who are offered an affordable ICHRA can’t also get a Marketplace premium tax credit, so the allowance needs to be set with care. We’ll walk you through it. Learn more about individual health insurance.

How it works

  1. Discovery call. We learn about your team, your budget and what you offer today (15–30 minutes).
  2. We shop the market. We request quotes from the carriers we’re appointed with and narrow them to the options that fit.
  3. Side-by-side review. We walk you through costs, networks and employee contributions in plain English. You decide.
  4. Enrollment. We handle the applications and can hold an employee meeting (in person or online) to explain the benefits.
  5. Ongoing support. We handle adding and removing employees, answer claims questions, and review your plan every year at renewal.

Employee Benefits FAQ

Our group health plans are for businesses with at least 5 employees. Smaller teams can look at an ICHRA or at dental, vision and life benefits.

It depends on your employees’ ages, where they live, the plan design and how much the business contributes. The quickest way to know is a free quote. We just need a basic employee census.

Yes. Dental, vision, life and most voluntary benefits can be offered on their own, which makes them a good starting point for smaller businesses.

They’re benefits employees choose and pay for through payroll deduction, like accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity or supplemental life, at group rates. Many cost the business nothing.

An Individual Coverage HRA lets a business give employees a monthly allowance and reimburse them, tax-free, for individual health insurance they choose themselves, instead of offering one group plan.

Small-group plans can usually start on the first of any month. Give yourself about 30 days for quotes, decisions and enrollment.
