2027 ACA Open Enrollment in Greenville, SC: Dates, Subsidies & What's Changing

If you buy your own health insurance through HealthCare.gov (the ACA Marketplace, sometimes called “Obamacare”), Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. Premiums are going up, and the extra tax credits of the last few years have ended. That makes this a year to shop carefully rather than let your plan auto-renew. Here’s what Greenville and Upstate families need to know.

Key dates

DateWhat happens
November 1, 2026Open Enrollment opens on HealthCare.gov.
December 15, 2026Last day to enroll or switch for coverage starting January 1, 2027.
January 15, 2027Open Enrollment ends. Plans picked December 16 – January 15 start February 1, 2027.

A 2025 federal rule would have shortened this window, but a federal court blocked that change, and CMS has confirmed the November 1 – January 15 dates for HealthCare.gov. If anything changes, we’ll update this page.

What's changing for 2027

  • Premiums are rising. South Carolina insurers asked for average increases of about 17% for 2027, before tax credits. Final approved rates are due before Open Enrollment, and your plan’s increase could be higher or lower.
  • The “subsidy cliff” is back. The enhanced premium tax credits ended December 31, 2025. For 2027 coverage, households earning more than 400% of the federal poverty level (about $63,840 for one person or $132,000 for a family of four) don’t qualify for any premium tax credit.
  • Most households still get help. If your income is under that line, you can still get a tax credit that lowers your monthly premium, often by a lot. Lower-income households may also qualify for extra savings on deductibles and copays with Silver plans.
  • Doing nothing can cost you. If you don’t act, HealthCare.gov will usually re-enroll you in the same or a similar plan, but your premium, network and tax credit may change. Update your 2027 income estimate every year.

Who should look at a Marketplace plan

  • Self-employed people, contractors and gig workers
  • Early retirees who aren’t 65 yet
  • Anyone between jobs, or at a job that doesn’t offer health coverage
  • Young adults turning 26 and coming off a parent’s plan
  • Small-business owners without a group plan (we also do group benefits)

Before you pick a plan, check

Your doctors and hospital

Networks vary a lot. Make sure your doctors, and the hospital system you use (for example Prisma Health or Bon Secours St. Francis), are in the plan’s network.

Your prescriptions

Confirm each drug is covered and see what it will cost.

Total cost, not just the premium

A low-premium Bronze plan can cost more over the year if you use care.

Your 2027 income estimate

It sets your tax credit. If your income changes during the year, report it so you don’t owe money back at tax time.

What to have ready

ZIP code, birth dates for everyone who needs coverage, a 2027 household income estimate, any job-based coverage offers, and your doctors’ and prescriptions’ names. With that, we can usually show you side-by-side options the same day.
